Environment

Fort Collins is a wonderful place to live because of our beautiful environment and the work that our community has done to protect and preserve our open spaces, the Poudre River, and our air quality. Our state not only has beautiful natural environments, but also abundant natural resources. Protecting the environment is fundamental to making sure we have healthy and safe places to live, work, and play.

The 2020 wildfire season saw three of the largest wildfires in Colorado history. It is abundantly clear that to protect our environment and ourselves, we must work hard on forest health and wildland fire mitigation. I was the prime sponsor several bills in the 2021 Legislative Session that do just that.

I also believe that to protect the beauty of our state while continuing to grow, we need to expand our use of renewable energy sources and technologies. By advancing renewables, we can create more jobs, new economic opportunities, and contribute to the global effort in addressing climate change. The long-term health and safety of Coloradans depends on the environment we share. To foster a positive future, I continue to support legislation for renewable resource development and environmental preservation.
